A Journey of Hope: Supporting Sigma Theta Tau International-Nu Iota Chapter

Sixteen years ago, Andy experienced his first grand mal seizure. The fear and uncertainty of that day marked the beginning of a long journey, one that would be guided by the exceptional care of Rachael, an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).

From the very start, Rachael was more than just an APRN; she became a pillar of strength for Andy, one of the owners of Sparks Florist. Rachael managed Andy's epilepsy treatment, ensuring timely prescriptions and advocating for cutting-edge solutions. When Andy needed a first-of-its-kind brain implant called Neuropace, Rachael led the charge, securing the treatment that would transform his life. Her unwavering support extended beyond medical care; she stood by him during family losses, understanding the profound impact of grief on Andy's condition.

Rachael's story is not unique but rather a shining example of the nursing dedication found within the Sigma Theta Tau International-Nu Iota chapter. With 105 members specializing in acute and community care, education, and nurse leadership, this chapter is committed to nurturing the next generation of nursing professionals. They support their members through scholarships, research grants, and peer mentoring, embodying the core values of leadership and scholarship.

One of the chapter's notable initiatives is the DAISY Award for extraordinary faculty at the Orvis School of Nursing. This award allows students and peers to recognize outstanding nursing educators, inspiring others to strive for excellence. Additional Nu Iota's collaboration with the Mae Orris Symposium and the Orvis School of Nursing Alumni Association highlights their commitment to showcasing nursing research. The virtual poster presentation sponsored by these collaborations provided nurses with a platform to share their work with a wide audience, fostering interdisciplinary connections and celebrating exceptional contributions to the field.

Supporting the Nu Iota Chapter directly impacts nursing students at the Orvis School of Nursing. The funds raised through the "12 Months of Flowers" campaign provide crucial financial assistance, helping students overcome barriers to their education and research. This support is vital in developing skilled nurses who will continue to make a significant difference in our community.

For over a century, Sigma Theta Tau has been at the forefront of celebrating excellence in nursing scholarship, leadership, and service. Supporting organizations like Sigma Theta Tau ensures that nurses resceive continuous education, access to top nursing journals, career support, and opportunities to connect with a global network of professionals. This not only advances individual careers but also enhances the overall quality of healthcare.

By purchasing a "12-Months of Flowers" card, you contribute directly to the Nu Iota Chapter's efforts to support nursing students and their groundbreaking research. Your participation helps alleviate the financial burdens faced by nursing students, allowing them to focus on their education and future careers. Your contribution will have a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our community.
