Building Bright Futures: Partnering with the Inspiring Reed High School Special Education Department

3/03/2024

Imagine a program that empowers individuals to not only excel academically but also flourish socially and contribute meaningfully to their community. This is the remarkable reality for students at the Reed High School Special Education Department, our newest Blossom Beneficiary at Sparks Florist®.

The Reed High School Special Education Department goes above and beyond in serving over 300 students, offering academic support, social development opportunities, and personalized guidance. Their dedication extends far beyond the classroom, providing students with platforms to explore their talents and interests through:

Athletic participation: Encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy competition.
Community service projects: Fostering a sense of social responsibility and civic engagement. Examples of these projects include food drives, reading buddies, and community clean-up initiatives.
Job skills workshops: Preparing students for potential careers through resume building, interview skills training, and connection to post-secondary options. They equip students with the tools they need to transition seamlessly into their lives after high school.

One of their most impactful initiatives is the scholarship program. By awarding financial assistance to graduating seniors, the department empowers students to pursue their post-secondary goals in a variety of fields, including college, trade schools, and vocational programs.

Last year, they awarded five $500 scholarships, fostering a significant impact on the lives of these graduating seniors. Their ambitious goal is to significantly increase this number, offering even more students the resources to access their desired post-secondary paths.

By purchasing a 12-Months of Flowers card through the Reed High School Special Education Department, you'll be doing more than sending beautiful blooms. You'll be directly contributing to:

Funding scholarships for graduating seniors: Every card purchased directly translates to increased financial support for students seeking to further their education.
Enriching educational experiences: Your contribution helps fund field trips and community-based learning programs, expanding students' horizons and fostering practical skills.
Providing essential resources: The program helps provide essential incentives and necessities for students, ensuring they have the tools they need to thrive.

A student who actively participates in the program, shared their experience: "This program has made me think more about what I am going to do and what I am going to say to other people. It’s made me think of how my actions impact others and it’s helped me become more of an upstander in my community. Whether it’s within the community or to stand up for what’s right if I see something bad happening.”
