Frequently Asked Questions

Why does everyone cross-train in Care & Handling?

Even if you have years of retail or design experience, every shop operates differently, and our standards are exceptionally high. Care & Handling ensures you learn the exact science of how Sparks Florist® processes, hydrates, and protects our flowers against the dry Northern Nevada climate. It also builds deep respect and coordination across our entire team.

What is our self-paced mastery phase?

Rather than a standard, time-bound training period, we run a Self-Paced Mastery Phase. This ensures everyone progresses based on actual skill and depth of understanding, not a calendar. Depending on your learning style and experience, this initial phase can take anywhere from 30 to 90 days, or up to a year, built around hands-on assessments of your ability to process fresh stems and care for our blooms.

For those who find they have a passion for the science and logistics of floral care, we also offer clear opportunities to build a long-term, rewarding career directly within our Care & Handling and Operations department, rather than transitioning to floral design. We invest in your depth of skill to ensure you feel fully confident and capable in whatever path you choose.

Do delivery drivers have to work with flowers?

Yes! Our delivery drivers are dual-threat team members. On arrival days and during slow delivery windows, you work directly in the Care & Handling space as an assistant. This keeps our design center running smoothly and ensures you understand the premium value of the arrangements you deliver to Midtown, Spanish Springs, and South Meadows.

I don’t have floral experience, but I’m reliable and eager to learn. Is there a place for me?

Absolutely. We don't hire for pre-existing floral design skills; we hire for grit, reliability, and character. We can teach you the science of Care & Handling and the art of floral design. What we cannot teach is a strong work ethic, a can-do spirit, and the habit of showing up on time, every time. If you bring the dedication, we will provide the training and the career path.

How much technology is involved in these roles?

More than you might think. We are the largest florist in Nevada because we run a highly coordinated, digital operation. Whether you are using routing software on a tablet as a delivery driver, managing orders on a screen in our Reno or Sparks shops, or coordinating logistics over Gmail, you need to be comfortable using basic digital tools. You don't need to be a software engineer, but you do need to be tech-comfortable and ready to learn our systems.

Is there a computer competency check during the application process?

Yes. Because we use modern digital route-planning and live order-management software, our simple, 3-minute application includes a brief computer competency check. We test for basic skills like navigating email and using a screen, ensuring every candidate we hire is set up to feel confident and succeed with our daily systems from day one.

Can I drop off a paper resume, call to check on my status, or do a walk-in interview?

To ensure the hiring process remains completely fair, consistent, and organized for all candidates, we do not accept paper resumes or walk-in applications. All applications must be submitted digitally through our secure online portal at https://forms.sparksflorist.com/careers-apply. (Note: If you have a disability and require a reasonable accommodation to complete any part of the digital application process, please email us at [email protected] or call us for assistance.)

Once you submit your application, it goes directly to our hiring team. If your experience and skills align with what we are looking for, we will reach out to you directly to coordinate the next steps. To keep our hiring pipelines clear and focused, we kindly ask that candidates do not call or drop by our shops to follow up on application statuses.

What if I don't see an open role that fits my skills right now?

Our team needs change dynamically throughout the year, especially as we prepare for major floral holidays. If you don't see an active opening that fits your background today, please do not drop off a paper resume. Instead, we highly recommend signing up for our Sparks Florist® email newsletter on our homepage, as we always let our email subscribers know about new job openings first! You can also check back regularly on our online portal, as new roles are posted there first the moment they open.

Is Sparks Florist® a local business?

Yes. Sparks Florist® has been 100% family-owned since 1960. Founded by Papa Tony (Tony Fiannaca) and Frank Foote, we are now in our third generation of local family leadership. We operate three physical locations: our Sparks Store on Pyramid Way, our Reno Store on Smithridge Dr, and our 10,000 sq ft Floral Design Center on Hymer Ave.

What is your equal opportunity and accommodation policy?

Sparks Florist® is an equal opportunity employer. We value a diverse, highly competent, and supportive workplace community. We are committed to providing a fair, consistent, and accessible application process for all candidates. If you require a reasonable accommodation to apply for any role, please contact us at [email protected] so we can assist you.

Are We the Right Fit for You?

We believe that a great career is built on mutual fit. If you value showing up for your team, have a passion for learning a hands-on craft, and want to work in an environment where respect and empathy are lived every day, we would love to hear from you.
